It was a beautiful sunday morning for a leisurely motorcycle ride through Ortega Highway and should have been a nice day for a 45 year old Corona Del Mar man who didn’t know this Harley ride would be his last. The collision happened in the blink of an eye two miles west of the county line, and the driver of a black Honda Accord carrying a woman and child crossed into the westbound lane and struck the Harley head on.
The Harley rider flew off his bike onto the dirt shoulder where he died, while the Accord continued on for a bit before it went off the road and over the side, tumbling into the canyon. The driver of the Accord attempted to flee on foot through the canyon but was stopped by witnesses. He was arrested by authorities and was tested for alcohol intoxication. The Accord’s passengers, who were rescued by firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority and the Division of Forestry in Riverside, were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released.
The highway was closed for nearly 5 hours and a man lost his life, all because of a dangerous driver!
DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE and be careful on mountain roads. Lives are at stake.
