Here we are, a week into the new year. It’s been raining almost every day this year. Actually, I’m not complaining, we need the water here in So Cal. We’ve been lucky so far this year that the rate of rainfall has not caused much damage around us. Branden has been out of school for Holiday Break for 3 weeks now and 2 of those 3 weeks it has rained, so Branden is going stir crazy cooped up inside. Relief is in site though, he goes back to school Monday.
New Years Day weekend we took all the Christmas decorations down and have reclaimed our house. Our living area is small and our tree is big, so it took up much of the area and while we enjoyed it we are glad to have the space back. The kids are back to playing with their old favorite toys, though the Air Hockey table has become one of those favorites. Branden still spends much of his time playing Yu-Gi-Oh, either using his playing cards or on his GameBoy. It will be good for him to get back into the Homework routine and take a break from the obsession.
Stacy and I spent New Years Eve playing the DVD movie trivia game “scene it?” which tests your knowledge of movie trivia by playing movie clips and asking questions. Then at 11:30pm we switched to “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Years Eve Celebration” without Dick Clark unfortunately. Regis stepped in and tried to fill Dick’s shoes (not very well really – sorry Regis, we like your regular show so don’t despair).
Saturday we watched the Rams beat the Seahawks (Seahawks really blew the last play to lose) and the Jets beat the Chargers (Rookie field goal kicker missed the OT try for the win). Today (Sunday) we watch the Broncos try to upset the Colts and the Vikings try to stop the Packers from ending their season today.
The Angels try and cash in on an expanded marked by changing their name to “The Los Angels Angels of Anaheim”. While I understand that Arte Moreno, the owner, is trying to do good things, spending money hand over fist to field a better team. The money has to come from somewhere and if the name change can really bring in more of the green stuff then he has done a good thing. BUT!!! This is Southern California… No team can survive in So Cal by virtue of a name change. Remember the Los Angeles Raiders? No WIN = No FAN. We are a heartless fan base who soon lose interest in a losing team. Who cares about the name when it comes to spending hard earned cash? Billboards are Arte’s business but that experience in marketing does not translate to Baseball or any other sports team. You can’t marked a loser in So Cal. Los Angeles Clippers anyone. You might as well try and market the WNBA.
My statement to Arte is: “Field a Winning Team and the money will come in! Market a Winner, no matter the name and you will make money! Market the name Los Angels and don’t field a winning team… you will lose money.”
Good luck Angels (I will not embrace the LA moniker though I will remain an Angels fan and hope that “This too shall pass”)
Go Broncos! Beat the Colts.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!
