Colorado Vacation 2005

We left on the Friday morning before Easter and drove through to Richfield, Utah (The halfway point to Granby, Colorado). It snowed through part of Utah and made for a very pretty drive. Saturday morning we woke up early and got on the road for the rest of the drive. Again we encountered some snow falling, but not too much.

On our way through Granby we saw some of the damage done by the “Bulldozer P1010027Rampage” last year. Most of the businesses had been rebuilt but the public library and civic center had to be relocated to trailers. Where the building used to be, there’s just a hole in the ground. Such a tragic shame that one person who felt he was treated unfairly could wreak so much damage.

The Granby/Frasier/WinterPark areas are all being developed at an astounding rate. In just one year we saw hundreds of houses and condos built in the area. A new supermarket was built and traffic signals installed (In a county with only one signal 5 years ago).

We had a great time in Winter Park. It snowed about 8 inches during our visit but we did have some sunny days as well. The kids had a blast sledding, which they did almost every day. We took some short trips to surrounding cities just to take in the sites. We did a bit of shopping, but didn’t really buy anything. We mostly just relaxed, though Stacy worked right through on the laptop and dial up modem.

The Friday following Easter, we packed up and began the drive home. No snow along the way this time, sunny and warm. It was amazing to see the transformation as our elevation decreased. We went from the clutches of winter to the bursting of spring.

Once again we stopped in Richfield, Utah for the night and then in Las Vegas we had lunch with Stacy’s Dad and Stepmom. The kids were thrilled to see their grandpa and grandma. We made it home around 6 on Saturday and everyone was glad to be back home. Our familiar surroundings were such an amazing relief after the long trip.

Thanks to Stefanie and Michelle for watching our house and animals.
